This was actually my first proper gadget review — the Samsung Galaxy Watch, 46mm Bluetooth model (SM-R800). I’d been using it for a while before deciding to put a full review together, so this isn’t a first-impressions unboxing, it’s based on actual day-to-day use.
Build and display
The 46mm case feels properly premium — it doesn’t feel like a “smart gadget” so much as an actual watch that happens to be smart. The display is bright, sharp, and easy to read even outdoors in direct sun, which isn’t something every smartwatch gets right.
Bixby voice commands
I was genuinely surprised by how well Bixby handles voice commands on this watch. It’s not perfect, but for basic tasks — checking the time, setting reminders, quick replies — it responds reliably enough that I actually use it rather than just having it as a gimmick feature.
Calls from the watch
One of my favorite features is the built-in speaker and mic — you can take and make calls directly from the watch without needing your phone in hand. It’s genuinely useful when you’re doing something hands-on (like shooting) and don’t want to dig your phone out of a bag.
Activity tracking
The activity tracking is solid for a general-use smartwatch — step count, heart rate, and workout tracking all show up clearly on the watch face itself without needing to open the phone app constantly.
Battery life
This is honestly one of the strongest points of this watch. Compared to a lot of newer smartwatches that need daily charging, the Galaxy Watch 46mm easily gets me multiple days on a single charge with normal use — a big deal if you don’t want to add “charge my watch” to your nightly routine.
Worth buying?
Even years after release, this watch holds up well if you find one at a good price — solid battery life, a genuinely useful Bixby integration, and a display and build quality that still feels premium.
